What's in my bag - Sandra McDowell Photography

Introduction

As I learn more about capturing better images, I've come to realise the need for some additional equipment.  The budget for my hobby isn't limitless and I have to make compromises.  I create a shopping list and am always on the lookout for good pre-owned equipment and upgrade when funds allow. This means I'll buy interim items and swap them out as I upgrade.

The Initial Outlay

At the end 2015 I had the opportunity to fund a change in camera systems.  I had been using an Olympus E410 and remember the original reason I choose this system.  It seems like a very unusual reason now, but I have very small hands and the E410 felt right. Therefore I knew whatever system I selected, size matters. At that time, mirrorless cameras were starting to make the headlines, with many professional photographers starting to see merits.

The Ultimate Guide

Canon and Nikon cameras felt too big, but the mirrorless Olympus OMD-EM1 "felt" right. At that time I didn't really understand what compromises I was likely to be making choosing a micro 4/3 system, however the reviews encouraged me to take the plunge.

The reviews said the camera is very feature rich but the menu system complicated, therefore I  invested in a  good book  to help.
